Jack Molloy: All the kings Men Post 1 (What does Jack do for Willie?)
Willie has jack to go dig up some dirt on the Judge. in chapter one Willie and Jack pay a visit to the Judge and unfortunately for Judge Irwin the meeting doesn't appear to be as friendly as expected. "So I said: "Suit yourself, Judge. But if I were you I wouldn't go around advertising this visit to anybody" (70). Judge Irwin ends up being not as cooperative as Willie wanted him too so Willie gives jack the task of digging up any dirt that he can find on Judge Irwin. "The Boss said: "Well, Jackie, It looks like you got a job cut out for you." and I said: "Callahan?" and he said: "Nope, Irwin." And I said "I don't Reckon you will find anything on Irwin." And he said "You find it."" (71). Willie eventually becomes a man that becomes wrapped up in corruption as he slowly goes through his rise to power. This first assignment seems to be the first glance at this corruption that begins to consume Willie. He uses Jack as his instrument to do so. Later we find that he ends up completing the task and Jack does more than a good job. He ends up completing Willies task as well as he could possibly do it. "It was the "Case of the Upright Judge" and Jack Burden had every reason to congratulate himself on a job well done. It was a perfect research job, marred in its technical perfection by only one thing: it meant something" (268). Jack executes this task that was given to him by Willie perfectly. In doing so it is in a way the start to the corruption that we see in Willie. Jack almost becomes remorseful that he did it. In the last quote that I stated he refereed to his job with its "Technical Perfection" but he also said it "Meant something" at the end. He executed the job perfectly that Willie had given him but later becomes unsure if he should have gone through with it.
